In opposition to the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, the Dallas Peace and Justice Center co-sponsored the "Stop DAPL Together" demonstration which was hosted by the American Indian Movement of Central Texas (AIMCTX) at the headquarters of Energy Transfer Partners in Dallas. Members of the Dallas Peace & Justice Center, along with the North Texas Light Brigade, gathered at the headquarters of the petro-pipeline giant, Energy Transfer Partners, for a light display and projection in support of the Standing Rock Reservation and the thousands standing up against construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). Their messages were: #StopDAPL; #WaterIsLife; #StopETP; and, ENERGY TRANSFER PARTNERS: #StopDAPL. Dallas Peace Center and Embrey Human Right's Prog at SMU have joined hands to host another lecture/conference on the same at SMU, Dallas sometime in September. A group pf six Dallas abolitionists met with Dallas DA Susan Hawk and her staff to discuss the abolition of the death penalty. The DA was very cordial, interested and attentive to our concerns and expressed a desire to learn more about the issue and to continue the dialog . July, 2015
January, 2015 marked the 13th anniversary of the opening by the Bush administration of the prison at Guantanamo Bay, which has become a symbol of our nation’s use of torture. On Saturday, January 10, Dallas peace activists marched to and demonstrated at the George W. Bush Presidential Center.
